With winter settled in and days that seem like there’s hardly any daylight, it can be difficult to always feel like your home is a comfy place to be. That extends far beyond doing annual furnace service too, because there are various things you can do to help make your home feel comfortable even when your furnace is running at its best.
Here are four that we find very helpful here in Houston:
- Seal air leaks. Air leaks, whether they’re around your windows or your doors, may mean a great deal of air is leaving your home. And, the air that you’ve just paid to be heated or cooled is heading outside also. There are a variety of options that can help you close those gaps, from weatherstripping to caulking, and they are relatively easy fixes for homeowners to take care of themselves.
- Swap your furnace filter. This is one of the most important things you can do to not only boost your furnace’s efficiency, but also to help save you on your bills. Plus, you don’t need to have your furnace service technician to do it, you can do it yourself. It’s typically recommended to swap your furnace filter every one or two months to get the most out of its capabilities, but some can last even longer.
- Buy plants. Indoor plants can leave you with a number of comforts for your home. Not only are they visually attractive, they can possibly better your indoor air quality as well because plants absorb a variety of toxins that are emitted from various common household cleaners, paints and other products.
- Furnace service. This should be something that you’re already taking care of, but it never hurts to have a reminder. Having furnace service done annually helps you be sure that your furnace is in working-order, and if there’s a need for repairs, those can be handled so your comfort isn’t compromised.
It doesn’t have to feel tough to keep a comfortable home when winter sets in. Feel free to give us a call at 713-469-3357 to learn more about any of these suggestions or find out more about furnaces, our furnace service or anything else comfort related.
