When your furnace has an issue, it often makes strange noises. To stay warm and prevent your malfunctioning furnace from doing you harm in your Houston, TX, home, you must first know what these noises mean. Therefore, we’d like to tell you about three odd sounds that may come from your heating system.
Clicking
It’s normal for your furnace to produce clicking noises after you turn it on temporarily. If you haven’t used the system in a while, these sounds will be especially likely to happen, but they shouldn’t persist for any significant length of time.
If your furnace continues clicking throughout its heating cycle, there’s a strong chance that it has ignition issues of some sort. It may have a defective flame sensor, a soot-filled burner, a bad fan motor or an obstructed ignition valve. Whatever the specific nature of the issue, maintenance service technicians can either clean things or, if your system needs more extensive work, make the necessary recommendations for further action.
Whistling
If your furnace’s filters become too dirty, the accumulated debris will begin to block further airflow through the system. As air passes through the filter, it may create a rather bizarre and high-pitched whistle.
To stifle this noise, replace your furnace’s filter approximately once every 90 days. Since dirty filters can severely compromise your system’s efficiency and cause it to overheat, we strongly urge you not to forget about this.
Rattling
Usually, a loose panel door may create rattling noises. If closing or fastening the door doesn’t remove this sound, some other loose part is probably the culprit. Maintenance service technicians should review your system and determine the exact source of the noise.
